What to study in each house!


Each chart signifies specific things and the astrologer looks at each house, the location of planets in the houses, the mutual aspects and disposition and then arrives at his conclusions based on that study.



The birth chart is divided into twelve houses in both Indian and Western astrology. Your zodiac sign is determined by your date of birth. However, in astrology after calculations based on the date, time and place of a person’s birth, a different zodiac sign emerges. The sign that emerges is called the Ascendant or lagna of the person and the first house in the chart.

According to sage Parashar, the body constitution, appearance, knowledge, temperament, strength and weaknesses of some one’s personality is indicated in the first house or lagna. Fame, success, maternal grandfather and paternal grandmother are also judged from the first house. The degrees represent the left and right side of the head, and if planets are badly placed in the first house, the person can get anything from a brain disorder, head injury, eye trouble or any problem affecting the head and facial region.



The second house rules wealth, family members, enemies, the right eye, right shoulder, learning, speech and oratorical abilities, ear, nose and throat area and people close to the person.



The third house rules siblings, right ear and arm, the throat, neck and shoulders, short travels, and property.



The fourth house rules education, mother, houses, domestic affairs, religious beliefs, ancestral property.



The fifth house rules children, especially first child, right side of the heart right knee, family deity, intelligence, talents, memory and depth, literary and artistic abilities.

The sixth house rules maternal uncles, worries and anxieties, step mother, right side of the stomach and calf of right leg, all diseases arising out of imbalance of the three humors Vata, Pitta and Kapha(wind, bile and phlegm), hurts, vices, obstructions in the path to progress, swellings, urinary and venereal infections.



The seventh house rules spouse, long journeys, navel and feet, second child, business partnerships, extra marital affairs.



The eight house governs private parts, inheritance, debts, left region of stomach and left leg, life span, the cause and place of death and facial diseases.



The ninth house indicates wife’s brother, long distance journeys, pilgrimages, the third child, general prosperity, father, investment and grandchildren.



The tenth house rules career and status, foreign residence, left side of chest, left thigh, fame and authority.



The eleventh house rules monetary gains, influential friends, older siblings, and affects children, paternal uncles, gains from in-laws, mother’s longevity.



The twelfth house rules financial losses, left eye, left shoulder, foreign travel or displacement, personal relationships, infirmity, falls, accidents an mental distress.
